Adding Lighting to Your Pond

One of the best ways to add that perfect touch to a backyard pond is through the use of pond lights.

You do want to be able to enjoy your pond regardless of the time of day or night that it is. Pond lights will allow you to really enjoy the plants and fish that you have worked so hard to nurture.

In general, water and electricity do not mix. This is the difficulty when installing pond lights. When you put in the lights for the first time, you will want to make sure there is no water in your pond. Although lights made for ponds are specially insulated and housed in water proof casings to prevent liquid from ever touching anything electrical, it is better to be safe than sorry. Placing the lights will just be easier if you do not have to reach into the water to do so.

You should also be aware of the life that is in your pond. Consider whether the lights will disrupt their lives or not. As do people, fish need darkness in order to be able to rest. The main difference between fish and people is the fish do not have eyelids. Thus, fish need darkness in order to help them to sleep. If you do place lights in your pond, be sure not to leave them on all of the time. Turning them off will save energy and the health of your fish as well.

Pond Spitters Make a Great Addition to Your Pond

You may wonder what pond spitters are. As the name implies, pond spitters are fountain like devices that are designed to literally split water.

If you have ever seen a fountain that features a bird, child or other animal shooting a stream of water out of it’s mouth, then you have seen one in use. They are also used in more elaborate fountains where streams of water shoot about in different directions. These types of displays are created through the use of pond spitters.

The Bellagio hotel in Las Vegas has one of the most elaborate fountain shows you will ever witness. spitters are used in this show to shoot water in unbelievably intricate and beautiful formations. This show is truly a piece of dynamic liquid moving sculpture. These types of fountains are where spitters are most often used. They are generally a means of adding artistic expression to a fountain, pond or lake.

You would certainly never need something as elaborate as what they use at the Bellagio to add a touch of flair to your backyard fountain. That being the case, you will find that there are plenty of uses for water spitters that can be much more simple, yet just as elegant. You can even add such interesting touches to your swimming pool.

You will find the most common type of spitter in fountains where there are statues that have a stream of water coming out of some orifice of the structure. This orifice is generally the mouth of the person or animal represented by the statue.

Some statues use these spitters to make humorous representations of young children by placing the stream in such a way that it looks like the child is using the bathroom. However you choose to use them, spitters can make a wonderful addition to any outdoor fountain.
