Adding Lighting to Your Pond
One of the best ways to add
that perfect touch to a backyard pond is through
the use of pond lights.
You do want to be able to enjoy your pond
regardless of the time of day or night that it
is. Pond lights will allow you to really enjoy
the plants and fish that you have worked so hard
to nurture.
In general, water and electricity do not mix.
This is the difficulty when installing pond
lights. When you put in the lights for the first
time, you will want to make sure there is no
water in your pond. Although lights made for
ponds are specially insulated and housed in
water proof casings to prevent liquid from ever
touching anything electrical, it is better to be
safe than sorry. Placing the lights will just be
easier if you do not have to reach into the
water to do so.
You should also be aware of the life that is in
your pond. Consider whether the lights will
disrupt their lives or not. As do people, fish
need darkness in order to be able to rest. The
main difference between fish and people is the
fish do not have eyelids. Thus, fish need
darkness in order to help them to sleep. If you
do place lights in your pond, be sure not to
leave them on all of the time. Turning them off
will save energy and the health of your fish as
well.
