Maintain Cleanliness with a Pond Skimmer
If your desire is going to
be to create a natural environment where you are
trying your best to simulate a real eco system,
then you will need a pond skimmer.
Things like leaves and other debris are a
natural part of the life of a pond. Although it
is true that ponds in nature do not have people
with pond skimmers to clean them when leaves and
things fall into them, most ponds in nature have
had a much longer time to develop than the one
your will be creating in your backyard.
Chances are that these ponds have more plants
and fish. They may even be connected to a source
of running water such as a stream or brook. Most
ponds in nature are really much dirtier than you
would want your pond to be.
You do not want your swimming pool to be filled
with debris, nor do you want your pond to be
filled with debris. You likely aren’t going to
be swimming in your pond as you would swim in a
pool, and the fish in your pond do not care
about the cleanliness, within reason. Still,
pond skimmers are an important tool for you to
have.
It is just a simple fact that your pond is not
going to be as equipped to deal with impurities
the way a natural pond will be. You may wonder
if the filter is enough to deal with these
elements. Filters are designed to deal with
small debris. Larger debris, such as leaves,
will eventually clog and damage your filters and
pumps. Over time, leaves can also deposit
chemicals into the water that can make the pond
unhealthy over time. For this reason, you will
want to get floating debris out of your pond as
soon as you can.
