Supplies you Will Need for Your Water Pond

In order to protect the health of your wildlife, you will need the proper Koi pond supplies.

Although Koi are very attractive fish, they can be difficult to care for. They are notorious for eating and damaging pond plants. In order to remedy this situation you can take several important steps, the main one of which is purchasing the proper pond supplies.

Koi look nice when you see them at a Japanese restaurant, but if you should decide to have your own Koi, you should be prepared for a lot of feeding and maintenance. They will generally devour all of your plants if you don’t feed them enough. And Koi eat a lot. One of the most important Koi pond supplies is the food.

Koi food is available in the form of pellets. You generally feed the pellets to the Koi twice a day, in the morning and in the evening.

Waste Not Want Not
Because Koi eat a lot of food, they do create a lot of waste. In order for the Koi to survive, the waste must be routinely cleaned up. Waste in the water can contaminate the fish. They will ultimately die if that happens. In order to remedy this problem rather simply, you may want to look at biological filters. Be sure to install a filter that is appropriate for the size of your pond. In order for an eco system to be successful, all elements must work in harmony.

Protection for Koi Ponds
Having both Koi and garden plants in your pond can be difficult. If the Koi do not eat the plants, they can dig them up. You may want to consider investing in some protectors such as the submerged plants and a pump protector net.

If the Koi in your pond are destroying the water lilies, you can purchase a floating plant protector net. These nets protect the plants by encapsulating the base of the plant, making it impossible for the Koi to dig the plants up.
