Pond Vacuums are a Great Investment
In order to keep your large
pond clean and free from debris that may fall
into it, debris like berries, leaves and other
unwanted materials, you may want to consider a
pond vacuum.
In smaller ponds, cleaning can be managed by the
pump itself. The pump is designed to suck in
water, send it through a filter to clean the
impurities and send the cleaner water back out
into the pond. For bigger cleaning tasks,
though, you will need a pond vacuum.
A pond vacuum will be equipped with a pump of
its own to remove water and place it into its
storage container. In many ways, the vacuums
made for ponds are similar to those made for
swimming pools. The basic difference is that
more dirt and debris will need to be removed
from the pond than will need to be removed from
a swimming pool. That being the case, the vacuum
should not be so powerful that it can
potentially ruin a good landscape. When
vacuuming your pond, be sure to avoid the plants
and the fish.
The basic purpose the pond vacuum will serve is
in getting rid of larger, unwanted debris. The
filter pump, and even the life in the pond
itself, will take care of the more minor,
everyday impurities. The vacuum will be most
useful in cleaning up leaves, berries, seeds or
other debris that have sunk to the bottom of
your pond.
For other things, a pond skimmer will help in
getting rid of floating debris. Again, you will
find that tools like pond vacuums or skimmers
are very similar to those used to clean a
swimming pool. It is best not to use swimming
pool equipment to clean your pond though. Be
sure the cleaning equipment is made specifically
for ponds.
